Assistant Nurse Manager, Acute Care - Intensive Care Unit
The Assistant Nurse Manager will work Full-time and will provide management assistance on an assigned shift and is accountable for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process. The Assistant Nurse Manager assesses, plans, delivers, coordinates, integrates, and evaluates nursing care related to patient needs at the expert level. The Assistant Nurse Manager contributes to the support of patients through interdisciplinary teamwork, assures that the care provided is consistent with applicable standards, regulations, statutes and state and federal law, and provides leadership to department staff, serving as a resource and mentor. The Assistant Nurse Manager assists the Nurse Manager with elements of planning, organizing, controlling, climate setting, leadership, and operational duties.
- The Assistant Nurse Manager provides nursing care and services to patients throughout the life span and in various settings at an expert level consistent with experience and educational preparation.
- The Assistant Nurse Manager collects, analyzes, and records relevant patient health data accurately.
- Analyzes assessment data to identify patient problems.
- Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient.
- Implements and records interventions appropriate to diagnosis or patient problem.
- Evaluates the patient’s progress toward attainment of identified goals.
- Develops a plan of care that describes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Adheres to approved, research-based practice standards.
- Enters accurate documentation of all patient care activities.
- Directs and supervises patient care provided by LPNs, RNs and support personnel.
- The Assistant Nurse Manager effectively precepts new staff members or students.
- Acts effectively as charge nurse or group leader.
- The Assistant Nurse Manager demonstrates consideration of safety, effective utilization of equipment and materials, and cost in managing patient care.
- Assists the Nurse Manager with elements of planning, organizing, controlling, climate setting, leadership, performance improvement, customer satisfaction, people development, professional growth, and unit profitability.
- Participates in gathering data, designing, planning, and implementing programs.
- Assists with resource and productivity issues according to established department procedures.
- Participates or leads committees as directed by the Nurse Manager, as noted in portfolio review.
- Plans and implements selected remedial actions for individuals and/or the unit with objectivity and expertise.
- The Assistant Nurse Manager responds to and acts on budgetary issues.
- Assists with achieving Operating Performance Standards as described and reviewed by the Nurse Manager
- Monitors activities and performance of selected staff with objectivity and expertise, as reviewed with the Nurse Manager.
- Completes Performance Appraisals for selected unit staff, as observed by the Nurse Manager.
- Engages in timely communication with management team and staff using acceptable communication techniques.
- The Assistant Nurse Manager serves in own community as a fitting representative of Bassett Healthcare as described in portfolio and reviewed by Nurse Manager.
- Communicates performance issues to management team with objectivity and expertise.
- The Assistant Nurse Manager responds to customer feedback within acceptable timeframe.
- Demonstrates daily involvement with selected staff to monitor professional development, identify educational and developmental needs, provide coaching and mentoring where indicated.
- After voicing opinion and working towards consensus, aligns with the Nurse Manager’s decisions and provides a positive attitude with staff.
- Advocates for patients to ensure the care preserves and protects the patient’s autonomy, dignity and rights.
- The Assistant Nurse Manager delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity.
- Assures that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures.
- Adheres to ANA Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses
- Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in his or her area of practice.
- Participates in 19-24 hours of education activity related to job function annually.
- The Assistant Nurse Manager develops and evaluates systems for orienting new staff and students.
- Demonstrates clinical problem-solving ability.
- Designs and coordinates PI initiatives demonstrating good organizing skills and follow-through.
- Contributes to the body of nursing knowledge through use of research and participation in professional practice committees and organizations.
- The Assistant Nurse Manager performs similar or related duties as requested or directed.
Education/Qualifications:
- 2 years/ Associate degree in Nursing required
- 4 years/Bachelor degree from an accredited Baccalaureate Professional Nursing program is preferred
Experience:
2 years’ experience in practice area required
2 years’ experience in charge nurse or leadership role is required.
Licensure/Certificates:
- Current NYS licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse required
- BLS certification required
- Specialty areas may require PALS, ACLS or additional certifications.
- May require National Certifications based on area of practice.
